Orifice Flanges are used for measuring the rate of flow of liquids and gases. The principle of metering flow by measurement of pressure drop across an orifice depends upon the accuracy of the assembled union, especially with regards to the position of the pipe tap with respect to the opening in the orifice plate. The accuracy of the measurement will be adversely affected even with very slight variations in positioning.
Orifice types are shaped basically the same as regular flanges except for the provision of radial holes in the flange ring for meter connections. There are also additional bolts or jack screws which are used to separate the flanges for inspection or replacement of the orifice plate.
Tri-Lad manufactures Welding Neck Orifice, Slip On Orifice, and Threaded Orifice flanges to the ASME/ANSI B16.36 specification.
