Blind Flanges (BL)

Blind flanges are used to seal off the ends of piping, valves and pressure vessel openings. With respect to internal pressure and bolt loading, blind flanges are the most highly stressed of all flange types. However, since the maximum stresses in this type of flange are bending forces at the centre, stresses in a blind flange can safely be permitted to be higher than in other types of flanges.
